Anadarko announces further Mozambique gas discoveryThe Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday announced that it has found approximately 525 net feet (160 metres) of natural gas pay in its Barquentine-4 well, in the Rovuma Basin, off the coast of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado. It also announced that schoolchildren from the Cabo Delgado district of Palma have chosen the name Prosperidade (Prosperity) for the company's discovery area, which includes the Windjammer, Barquentine, Lagosta and Camarao wells. Anadarko estimates that Prosperidade holds 17-30 plus trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas. According to Bob Daniels, Anadarko's Senior Vice President for Worldwide Exploration, “the selection of Prosperidade as the field name is certainly appropriate, as it symbolises the partnership's expectations for this area and the opportunities it represents for the people of Mozambique.” The Barquentine-4 well is the northernmost well in the Prosperidade complex, approximately 30 km north of the Lagosta discovery well located on the southern end. It is located in water depths of approximately 1,650 metres. MOZAMBIQUE INFORMATION AGENCY, April 4, 2012 |
